A class action in Canada claims that Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. and Rio Tinto, along with several company executives, made misrepresentations in their disclosure documents and public statements about the company. Investors who bought TRQ shares outside the United States during the class period say they suffered losses as a result.

The company and executives deny any wrongdoing, but the parties have agreed to a proposed settlement of CAD $22,663,980.00 to avoid the cost and uncertainty of a trial. The settlement still needs to be approved by the Superior Court of Quebec at a hearing before any money is paid out. If approved, the net fund will be shared among class members who submit a valid claim, based on their investment losses.

Frequently Asked Questions

What stage is this settlement at?

The parties have reached a proposed settlement of CAD $22,663,980.00, but it must still be approved by the Superior Court of Quebec. A Settlement Approval Hearing is scheduled for October 20, 2026, where the Court will decide whether the settlement is fair and reasonable.

How much could I receive?

If the settlement is approved, the net settlement fund (estimated at roughly $13,672,238.43 to $13,808,709.52 after fees and administration costs) will be divided among claimants in proportion to their investment losses. Each claimant would be paid the same percentage of their compensable losses, to a maximum of 100%, depending on the total claims submitted.

Do I need to do anything right now?

No. There is no claim process yet. If the settlement is approved, class members will be asked to submit a Claim Form and documentation confirming their acquisition of eligible TRQ securities. Notices about how to file will be posted at www.TRQSettlement.com.

Can I object to or opt out of the settlement?

The deadline to opt out was September 1, 2026 and has passed. Opting out is no longer available. Class members who did not opt out remain in the class and are bound by the outcome.

What happens if I do nothing?

If you do nothing and the settlement is approved, you stay in the class action and are bound by the Court's orders, giving up your right to sue the Respondents separately. You would need to submit a valid Claim Form later to receive a share of the settlement fund.
