How Claim.ca verifies class action settlements

Every settlement listed on Claim.ca is sourced from primary documents and reviewed by a licensed Ontario lawyer. Here is what that means in practice.

Where the information comes from

Settlement details are taken from primary sources: court notices, settlement agreements, claims administrator websites, and published court decisions. Automated tools help find new and updated settlements, but they only add items to a review queue; they do not publish. Each settlement page shows whether a lawyer has verified it against its source documents and, if so, when.

What gets checked

Claim deadlines, eligibility criteria, who the claims administrator is, whether claims are currently open, and the settlement status (Claims Open, Claims Not Yet Open, Claims Closing Soon, Claims Closed).

How often

Active settlements are re-checked on a regular schedule. When a court approves a settlement, a deadline is extended, or a claims portal opens, the page is updated the same day the notice is published.

Who does the reviewing

Marty Mikhail, a lawyer licensed by the Law Society of Ontario, who operates Claim.ca. Reviewing a listing does not make Marty Mikhail counsel on it. Pages marked "Lawyer review pending" have been sourced from the court notice but not yet personally verified.

Cases on the Class Action Watchlist

The Watchlist follows lawsuits that have been filed but have not reached a settlement, so there is nothing to claim yet. Each case page is drawn from the court filings and from the case pages of the lawyers who filed them, and shows the stage the case has reached. The same lawyer review applies: every case page shows whether it has been reviewed and when. A Watchlist page reports what is alleged; none of it has been proven in court.

What this is not

Claim.ca does not act as counsel on any class action listed here and does not file claims on your behalf. Eligibility descriptions are summaries; the official notice and claim form govern.
