The Government of Canada created the Indian Boarding Homes Program in the 1950s. It removed First Nations and Inuit children from their communities and placed them with private families so they could attend school.

This class action settlement provides compensation to people who were placed in these private homes by the Government of Canada. Eligible claimants can apply for a Category 1 payment for their placement, and may also apply separately for a Category 2 payment for abuse. Representatives can claim on behalf of people who died on or after July 24, 2016.
