Estée Lauder experienced two data incidents in 2023, one occurring on or around May 31, 2023 and another on or around July 12, 2023, in which the personal or financial information of customers in Canada was compromised or stolen. A class action was filed in the Superior Court of Québec on behalf of affected people across Canada.
Estée Lauder denies all the allegations and any liability, and no court has found it liable. To avoid the risk, cost, and delay of continued litigation, the parties agreed to a national settlement in which Estée Lauder would pay CAD $1,515,000 into a settlement fund. The settlement still needs to be approved by the court at a hearing scheduled for June 3, 2026 before any claims process opens.
