If you bought an iTunes, App Store or Apple Music gift card in Canada since January 1, 2016, gave the redemption code to a scammer, and were never fully refunded by Apple or anyone else, you may be eligible for a cash payment from a proposed $1,250,000 settlement once it is approved by the court.
Who may be eligible
- You are a person in Canada who purchased one or more iTunes, App Store or Apple Music gift cards between January 1, 2016 and the date of the court's Final Order.
- You provided the redemption code of the gift card to a third party unknown to you, who sought the code under false pretenses.
- You did not receive a full refund or other compensation for your complete losses from Apple or any third party.
- You are not a defendant, an employee or affiliate of the defendants, an employee of a law firm involved in this litigation, or a judge assigned to the case (or their staff or immediate family).

This class action was started in Ontario in 2020 on behalf of people across Canada who fell victim to gift card scams involving Apple gift cards. Fraudsters tricked people into buying iTunes, App Store or Apple Music gift cards and sharing the redemption codes, then drained the value of the cards. The lawsuit alleged that Apple could have held and reversed transfers to fraudsters and flagged suspicious transactions, and that people who lost money were not fully refunded. Apple was not the party that ran the scams and denies all allegations of wrongdoing, and none of the claims were proven in court.
The parties reached a proposed settlement of CAD $1,250,000 on October 21, 2025, and the court certified the class action for settlement purposes. The settlement must still be approved by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice at a hearing that was scheduled for September 15, 2026 in Toronto. If the settlement is approved, the money, after legal fees and administration costs, will be distributed to eligible class members under a Distribution Protocol, and a further notice will explain how and when to file a claim.
